Noted road racer and safety instructor Kim Prichard and her team was on on hand for custom instruction.   For more information on Ms. Prichard visit her My Space page.

You can also check out our Facebook page for action stills…I think our photographer got a  shot of just about everybody.

Fall was definately in the air Sunday morning when those us from Santa Fe got rubber on the road early in the morning to get to Sandia Motor Speedway in time for track school/track day.

BMW Shop Ride

8/22/10

On Sunday,  August 22, 2010  motorcycle general manager Jim Johnson led a group of early risers up from the shop in Albuquerque to join up with the gang  from Santa Fe BMW to go on a group ride through the Jemez Mountains.    A total of about 60 riders showed up to enjoy a breakfast burritos, pastries and coffee.

General Mangager Jim Johnson gives out instruction to a "mostly" attentive audience.

Jim made clear this was not going to be a pack ride and once we hit the road everyone was to “ride their own ride.”

The gathered riders departed in small groups armed with Google maps and,  hopefully, at least one person who knew the route.    The route intitially headed northeast  on NM 599, also known as the Santa Fe Relief route,  to avoid negotiating all the traffic through downtown.    Once clear of downtown,  NM 599 merges with US 285-84 and the group continued to spread out on the north-bound freeway.

Just south of Pojoaque the group had to slow down and a lot of bikes bunched up to make the turn west on NM 502 toward Los Alamos.

The group enjoyed the broad lanes and wide sweepers ascending into the Santa Fe National Forest.

Just before reaching Los Alamos the group headed southward on NM 4 toward White Rock.  This is where the ride got really interesting.   The road narrows and becomes of poorer quality, but much, much more interesting.

Everybody did stop and catch up and take a break at the magnificent Valles Caldera.

After hydrating, chatting it up a bit and enjoying the view the riders again departed in small groups headed for the destination of Jemez Springs.

After navigating around the hair pin and a number or other various twists and turns our riders once again stopped and gathered at Jemex springs.

After refreshing one more time the group split up for good.  Those who road up form Albuquerque headed back down the hill and most of those who live in Santa Fe turned around and took the same route home.  All in all a very successful day…beautiful weather, scenery and riding with friends.  Hardly gets any better than that.

Andy shows off the S1000RR

Santa Fe BMW Motorcycles recently hosted a coming out party and tech session for the companies newest and most radical machine this Saturday, February 13, from 3:00 to 5:30 PM. The S1000RR is BMW’s first attempt in decades to recapture the glory of the earlier times when Motorrad ruled the racetrack. And, with the lightest weight and most horsepower of any bike currently in the same class they have a shot at doing just that.

The S1000RR

The event was hosted by Jim Johnson from Sandia BMW and Andy Caperones from Santa Fe BMW. They had just returned from the S1000RR Nationwide Dealer Release event where they were able to ride the machine on the Palm Beach International Raceway. To say they are excited about this bike would be an understatement.

There was a naked bike on display so the experts can better explain and demonstrate the unique and innovative features of this motorcycle.

Ben Grant aka "Mr. Wizard" poses with his special creation

Another attraction of the event was the “Santa Fe” airhead created by our resident airhead genius Ben Grant.

The one and only "Santa Fe" model in existence

This special “Santa Fe” model built by “Mr. Wizard” practically redefines the term “Frankenstein” bike.

This is how we go around the track without hurting each other boys and girls.

Classes were provided for the beginner and novice class riders which were most informative and helpful and made the day more enjoyable for everyone.
